Either you’re considering purchasing the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, or you’re just reading this to find out what a plug-in hybrid actually is.
Let us enlighten you.
A Plug-in Hybrid is a car that has an electric motor and a battery that you can plug in to charge, as well as a normal gas-powered engine that you fill up at the gas station. This provides drivers with the efficiency of driving on electric, along with the flexibility and peace of mind you get when driving on gas.
2018 is the first year for the all new Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, and already it has been given the 2018 Best Buy Award by Kelley Blue Book, and the 2018 Green Car of the Year by Greencarjournal.com.
2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid Details
The 2018 Honda Clarity uses a high-capacity battery for longer all-electric driving and a gas-powered engine as backup for when electricity runs low. It has a 47-mile all-electric range rating, meaning you can use the Clarity for most daily work commutes and running errands on one charge.
To charge your Clarity, simply plug it into a level 2 charging station at 240 volts, which will charge your battery in about two and a half hours. You can also charge it at home with a standard 120-volt outlet, but it will take about 12 hours. What is super convenient is that you can charge your car while driving. By pressing a button called HV charge mode, the battery will charge from the gas powered engine while still cruising. This also means that if your electric battery runs out, the gas-powered engine takes over, yielding a 340-mile combined gas and electric range rating.
The Clarity offers a choice of three driving modes—Econ, Normal, and Sport—each delivering progressively more aggressive acceleration and pedal response.
